Average Rating:
Rating: - Excellent player, good features, unbeatable price
I made some research before buying my first DVD player, and I finally decided to buy this one because of the positive reviews I found on the web. I received ... a player starting with serial HE113. Pros: 1) Plays DVDs made for different regions (I had to activate some secret menu to use this). 2) Plays VCD and SVCD burned on CDRs or CDRWs. Works very well with higher kbs as well. 3) You can browse the files on a disk, and play mpg, mp3 or jpg files. When you see your jpg pictures, you have the ability to zoom in (up to 4x), see many pictures in one screen (some kind of thumbnail view), and you can even select between many transition effects (this is not documented in the manual). I heard about some other undocumented features, like the musical slideshow mode, but I didn't test this yet. Cons: 1) No way to completely turn off the unit with the remote. 2) The unit and the remote seem a little "cheap". 3) The manual does not list all the features.Overall I am very happy with the player, don't think that this is a bad player because of its price!!
Rating: - The item description is wrong regarding voltage select
The item description states that the Norcent DP300 has "Manual voltage select (AC 100 to 240 volts, 50 or 60 Hz) lets you use the player in several countries" and states that is ideal for taking with you on vacation to Europe. This is not true. The unit does not have a manual voltage select. On the back it says 110/60 hz. I bought it for use in Denmark so I had to buy a step down transformer (USD 10). It works fine with the step down transformer. I made it region free which was easy. The DVD works fine. The unit lacks a display with time and track etc. It would have been nice to see play/remaining time in a display on the unit. Overall a good unit at a very good price.
Rating: - A decent DVD player...
...if you don't mind 1) not having power on/off on remote control 2) rather tardy DVD/CD tray 3) not having 'random' play of tracks on a music CD 4) an almost useless user manual and 5) a silver-finish unit.Other than the above complaints, this feature-rich DVD player is definitely worth the sixty some dollars I paid for it in Feb 2003. More so, if you play DVDs from other regions or want to use this player in other regions (120/240 V, 50/60 Hz, PAL/NTSC). Yes, with the code (a sequence of button presses on te remote control) available on the internet, my player now plays DVDs from any region! Also DVD/DVD-R/CD/CD-R discs play without any problems.
